BEMIBEM - Bemowe Frazy
Very groovy vocal jazz from Poland -- very much in the style of the best work by the Novi Singers! The group's led by the lovely Ewa Bem, but features harmonizing male voices behind her on many titles -- set alongside lightly electric instrumentation that has lots of sweet breezy touches! There's a very playful feel to the tunes that's clearly inspired by the bossa vocals of Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 -- but which also has some great electric Polish jazz 70s touches as well. Charlie Mariano and Vitold Rek - OPUS ABSOLUTUM
The 80 year old saxophone & flute player Charlie Mariano is a living legend and the double bass player Vitold Rek is one of the most expressive and sensitive European virtuosi of his instrument. On „opus absolutum“ they are accompanied by piano & drums, and the singular, relaxed atmosphere of this jazz album is fascinating. A perfect interplay. (LJEifel) Gitarre & Bass, January 2004
