“Double Heart” is a generous portion of wonderful jazz in its purest form: beautiful varied compositions, charming in their clarity and melodic content, and a clear acoustic sound, combined with outstanding but not overstated rhythm section.
Newst release from Charles Gayle - almost 70-year-old legend of free jazz. He spent almost 20 years playing on the streets of New York City. Gayle begun his professional career in mid 80s performing in clubs (e.g. Knitting Factory) and recording albums (the most important once for Silkheart, FMP, Thirsty Ear and Clean Feed). This album was recorded at Jazzga Club, Lódz, Poland on April 25, 2007.
The 80 year old saxophone & flute player Charlie Mariano is a living legend and the double bass player Vitold Rek is one of the most expressive and sensitive European virtuosi of his instrument. On „opus absolutum“ they are accompanied by piano & drums, and the singular, relaxed atmosphere of this jazz album is fascinating. A perfect interplay. (LJEifel) Gitarre & Bass, January 2004
Clangs was the fruit of a number of concerts and two weeks we spent together, sometimes talking, sometimes just simply in silence, a silence nonetheless already thick with references and interpretative codes. (A.Centazzo) The New Moon
This music was created specially for theatre play "Milosc ci wszystko wybaczy" written and directed by Przemyslaw Wojciszek, staged at Teatr Polonia, Warsaw.
'Pig inside the Gentleman' continues on poetical path established by 1960s Polish Jazz classics like Krzysztof Komeda and Andrzej Kurylewicz. Strong and ferocious sound but at the same time with uplifting and inspiring film music-like themes.
SOMETHING LIKE JAZZ Contemporary Noise Quintet – jazz music without jazz, film music without movie but something splendid instead! Despite the band’s name suggesting noisy music for the chosen ones, CNQ appears to be a revelation for everyone. Beautiful, hard, romantic piano tunes in the dialogue with brass section. Simple and extraordinary emotional compositions leading to the climax which makes the flesh creeps while listening. Hair bristle on the heads of those who remember the musical past of CNQ’s members…
The international project "Penderecki... jazz" (2002) combines contemporary music and jazz. This unique project was created under the honorary patronage of Krzysztof Penderecki. Outstanding musicians like Romanian pianist Mircea Tiberian, German clarinet player Rudi Mahall, bass player and percussionists Marcin and Bartlomiej Oles fused Penderecki's compositions with jazz.
Daniel Carter is not an enigma, no more than a teeming forest is. Give some sincerely up for true and you've made a commitment which will last a lifetime, if you've got the mettle for searching unfettered. If the world ever does truly silence for a moment please, the first sounds I would want to hear are the ones that Daniel Carter chooses, because I know that true democracy is deep in his essence. Pianist Brad Mehldau is featured on five piano/bass duos. Bassist Darek Oles has toured the world with such noted musicians as Brad Mehldau, Charles Lloyd, Bennie Maupin, Dianne Reeves, Shiela Jordan and many others. Darek now offers his first CD as a leader, which features several of his well known colleagues in duo, trio and quartet formats. This is a profound CD by one of the most important bassists and composers in jazz today.
Although this is an improvised session, it has that wonderful magic glue that these serious and seasoned musicians are so successful at. (BLG, Downtown Music Gallery)
Duets are rather rare instrumental jazz combinations. The very combination of piano and bass calls for the superior technical and creative qualities of both partners.
There is no scarcity of jazz festivals, but there are few that have their own unique and unmistakable profile. JazzBaltica is one of these rare exceptions - a series of events aimed at presenting musical improvisation by and artists from all over Baltic Sea. This CD is was recorded Oct 25, 1992 at the Opera, Kiel during JazzBaltica '92 Festival.
Finally after a long and careful digital re-mastering process, I'm pleased present here some un-issued orchestral compositions featuring among the others, the greatest German trombone player Albert Mangellsdorf. (Andrea Centazzo) Lost in the Mist
The music of Dragons 1976 is never bound to it's tradition, as each of the members is influenced by a wide array of styles including minimalism, folk, rock, electronic and free improvisation. Rooted in jazz, their music is strongly melodic; with no set chord progressions, it is allowed to freely find its own space.
We explored some aspects of our improvisational art, gleaned the best elements from our baggage of music memories and exposed them clearly and confidently.(Andrea Centazzo) Drop Two
I intended to cut a record with pop music played by jazz musicians. It was done easy, and it should be listened to easy as well; it may come through one ear and flow away through another. And if, incidentally, it brings the listener some pleasure - we may say that is mission is filled. Wojciech Karolak (1974)
Bydgoszcz is a place of eruption of a particular innovative energy, mainly in relation to the native tradition. It is similar in this case, although we deal here with a quite clear inspiration from the jazz-rock music of the 70's (in particular from the early groups such as Jack deJohnette, Weather Report, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra...)
