Ullmann / Malaby / Gress / Haynes Basement Research Live in Münster
few improvising artists can boast the stream of creative ideas that seem to bubble from gebhard ullmann. ullmann focuses on the fundamentals of improvised jazz: melody, sound, syncopation and technical excellence, but what makes his writing and playing so successful is his seemingly never-ending innovative nature: without grasping for neoteric straws, ullmann's performances are grounded in the past but plunge forward deliberately toward modernity. ullmann leaves the strong mark of a disciplined sculptor of sound, who speaks his own compelling language

Zimpel / Traczyk / Rasz Trio - The Light
Unrestrained and at the same time sensuous bass clarinet is reminiscent of John Surman or Michael Pilz whose trademark was the right punch line and mood. It is truly brave and surprising that the trio decided to do without any harmonic instrument. What may be obvious to a pianist or guitar player is still quite a challenge fo an improvising clarinetist. This proves how confident and convincing Zimpel's craftsmanship is. It is admittedly greatly supported by his musical partners, the drummer Robert Rasz and the bass player Wojtek Traczyk, all three of them make a perfect tuned rhythmic section.
