About:
BRONISLAW SZALANSKI has moved around quite a bit, and you can tell by the variety of his releases. His career began in Poland, and between 1996 and 2000 he performed on Jazz Radio Big Band, the International Jazz Festival in Olsztyn, the International Jazz Gold Meeting in Llawa, with Polish jazz great Jan Plaszyn Wroblewski at his 40th anniversary show, and he came in third at the Jazz Juniors’ 24th International Competition. He also composed and performed original music for Nieboska komedia,a theatrical production by Not Gods Comedy performed at the Kwadrat Theatre in Warsaw. He spent 2000 in Germany, where he played a national tour with B Shop (a project he started in 1998) and at the Jazz Garden Festival in Frankfurt, Germany with Dr. Burkard Kunkel on bass clarinet. In 2001 he moved to Chicago, where he performed at various venues,including Andy’s, The Green Mill, Weeds with The Temple Triofeaturing R.J. Temple on guitar and Howard Davis on drums,and at Some Like It Black with Mel Davis on drums. He returned to Poland in 2002 to record soundtracks to three Polish films;Podskora¸Cubic, and Plaza. He moved to Ireland the following year, where he performed in Sligoat the Solo Festival and in Dublin at the Spiegel Tent fest with Kai Little Big Band. That same year he recorded and produced a self-titled CD in Polandwith the Bronislaw Szalanski Electric, featuring Konrad Zemler on guitar and Hubert Zemler on drums. In 2004 he explored funkier territory with Ireland’s New Colour Soul, with whom he recorded Life’s A Party and went on a 25-date nationwide tour, achieved chart success and appeared on RTE 2’s ID+, The Dave Fanning show, and FM104’s Strawberry Alarm Clock. He also formed The Bronek Szalanski Trio with Justin Carol on electric organ and drummer Sean Carpio. The following year was a busy one, as it saw Szalanski performing with reggae band Alligator at the Festival of World Cultures in Dun Laoghaire, experimental laptop duo Double Adaptor at Live at the Village Vanguard, and the Dirty Jazz Band at the Open Jazz Festival; forming the Bronek Szalanski Dublin Project with bassist Dave Redmond and drummer Sean Carpio and continuing with New Colour Soul, who received a Meteor Music Award nomination for Best New Irish Band. He is currently living and playing in Barcelona and just released new album with the Bronek Szalanksi Trio,now a two-drummer outfit featuring Hubert Zemler and Roman Slefarski. HUBERT ZEMLER graduated from Chopin Academy of Music, Warsaw with a Masters Degree in Percussion In ear 2004. Performed with : Polish National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jerzy Maksymiuk, Elmer Berenstein, Jacek Kasprzyk and Jan Krenz, Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish Radio Orchestra. Drummer, Actor, Performer. Graduated Chopin School of Music (jazz and popular music) in 2000, taught by Czeslaw "Maly" Bartkowski. Winner of "Jazz nad Odra 1996"Competition, receiving title "New Face of Polish Jazz". He performed with : Charles Gayle, Burkard Kunkel, Bronislaw Szalanski, John Schroder, Tomasz Szukalski, Jan Skowron, Michal Tokaj, Recorded with :"Tria", "Crush", "Trawnik","Meritum".
