About: Stanko's breakthrough 1993 recording was conceived in warm days and cold nights of early Spring of 1993. Like with a good vine which grapes need to be harvested, crushed and destemmed; the tracks for 'Bosanossa' were constructed in Stanko's head for many years, preserved in the notes, perfectly balanced between needs of composition and the freedom for improvisation, separated into four different musical personalities, and finally recorded. "Composition is important because you can compose what you approximately look for" - says Stanko, which explains the delicate flavors, melancholies, and nuances of 'Bosanossa's' compositions, masterfully performed by this probably the most underappreciated Stanko's quartet. The next record by the same quartet ('Leosia', on ECM, 1996) was awarded by Penguin jazz guide four stars and a crown; but when you ask for even more, it is all here on this album, and delivered in a big way.
